Set in 1970’s Vancouver Breakaway follows Sammy, an 11 year old Chinese Canadian girl whose obsession with one day playing ice hockey is shot down by her responsibilities at home and bullying older brother.
Jenny Lee-Gilmore is a 4th year BFA Film Production student. Jenny has written and directed her first short film “Breakaway” as well as continuing her work in producing and production design. She also has interests in gender and critical race studies and aims to reflect that in her films. After graduation Jenny hopes to continue writing and directing and to hone her skills in production design.

Dide Su Bilgin is a Turkish filmmaker and editor in her 4th year at the University of British Columbia Film Production Program. She is interested in tackling the many aspects of film regarding representation of the intangible, whether this entails picking at the human psyche or illustrating narratives in regard to identity.
Dide Su is heavily inspired by animation and is curious about unconventional methods of filmmaking. As the daughter of two scientists, experimentation comes as a natural cause and effect.
